David Sedaris

On Monday, I had the fortune of attending a reading by David Sedaris. He was at the famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem. This is probably the third or fourth time I've seen him present his material, and this guy cracks me up! Always edgy, never shying away from his viewpoint, his writing is smart, witty, and sharp.

I'm trying to keep David in mind as I work my way through 50,000 words by the end of November for the NaNoWriMo challenge. It has been a really wild process of just writing without limit, without edit, without (sometimes) clear direction...very freeing. It is precisely why I wanted to take on the writing challenge--to get the creative juices flowing once again.

And who knows, maybe at the end of it all I'll be a best-selling novelist who tours the world sharing little snippets of his writing...Okay, work with me folks. This image is what is getting me through the 50,000 words!

I've seen this challenge, but I've never partaken. I AM, however, writing a book. I'm braving a new world, this time with a partner to help me write. :)
